Scenario Focus: Managing Unclear Client Requirements & Escalations
Hey team, the client just sent over a major change request for tomorrow’s launch, but they haven’t clarified who approves the added scope. What should we do?
How should you coach Jordan to navigate this ambiguity effectively?
- Option A: Immediately halt all work and wait for executive approval.
- Option B: Draft a clear clarification message proposing a phased rollout and request a 15-min sync.
- Option C: Accept the changes silently to keep the client happy and work overtime.
Accelerated onboarding speed down from an initial 6–8 weeks average.
Simulated decision-making built directly inside an authentic Slack UI.
Fewer manager interventions and misaligned assumptions across remote teams.
Ambiguity—Not Knowledge—Was the Barrier
In fast-moving remote environments, employees rarely fail due to a lack of technical knowledge. Instead, they struggle when instructions are incomplete, priorities shift mid-project, or stakeholder expectations remain vague.
At the fictious Northstar Labs, newly hired remote employees were spending up to 8 weeks before feeling confident making decisions under uncertainty. The goal of this project was to build a safe, highly realistic sandbox where employees could practice handling ambiguous workplace challenges before facing them live.
Action Mapping Framework
Using Cathy Moore’s Action Mapping methodology, I shifted the project away from information dumping and focused strictly on high-value workplace behaviors.
Reduce employee ramp time and decrease unnecessary manager escalations by 25%.
Identify exact behaviors employees must take when facing missing or vague project details.
Craft authentic Slack message threads mirroring real workplace dilemmas and constraints.
Provide immediate, realistic consequences rather than simple ‘Correct / Incorrect’ popups.
Visual Systems & Accessibility
Every element of the interface was designed to minimize cognitive load while maximizing immersion and accessibility.
Rebuilt Slack’s layout inside Storyline 360 using a modern soft palette (Coral, Sage, Cream) for high visual comfort.
Used stylized vector avatars with subtle facial expressions to enhance emotional resonance without triggering uncanny valley effects.
Fully WCAG compliant with high contrast ratios, scalable typography, screen reader compatibility, and full keyboard navigation.
Multi-layered branching logic allows learners to experience real-world compound consequences based on earlier decisions.
Future Enhancements
Future Iteration Roadmap:
Adding optional voiceovers for asynchronous video calls and subtle Slack audio notification effects.
Expanding edge-case pathways for senior-level roles needing complex cross-departmental negotiation scenarios.
