01. The Challenge

The Performance Gap

Managers frequently avoided critical feedback conversations or relied on vague statements (“You need to be more proactive”) and outdated models like the “sandwich method.”

The Business Impact

Unaddressed performance bottlenecks, employee anxiety stemming from ambiguous expectations, and elevated turnover during quarterly evaluation cycles.

02. Blended Solution Architecture

To maximize active practice during live instruction, I structured this solution as a 3-part blended learning journey that moves from knowledge acquisition to real-time skill application.

Phase 1: Pre-Work

Self-Paced Prep

10-minute self-assessment & scenario reading to establish baseline awareness prior to class.

Phase 2: Live vILT

60-Min Workshop

Interactive virtual session focused on SBI-A modeling, live chat water-falls, and triad roleplays.

Phase 3: Job Aid

Just-In-Time Support

1-Page desktop quick-reference sheet for managers to prep before actual 1:1 meetings.

03. Facilitator Guide & Run-of-Show Sample

Below is an excerpt from the timed Facilitator Guide illustrating how slide cues, participant interactions, and script prompts were structured to keep virtual delivery highly engaging.

Timing Slide & Visual Cue Facilitator Script & Activity Prompts Learner Action
00:00 – 00:05 Slide 1: Welcome
Visual: Warm welcome banner with Audio check
“Welcome everyone! Today we’re moving away from generic feedback models like the ‘sandwich method’ and focusing on actionable conversations. By the end of this hour, you’ll practice a 4-step framework in real time.” Join session, verify audio, open chat window.
00:05 – 00:15 Slide 2: Cost of Vague Feedback
Visual: Interactive Word Cloud
Chat Waterfall Activity:
“In the chat box, type ONE word that describes how most people feel when receiving ambiguous feedback… Notice how most discomfort stems from uncertainty. Today’s tool eliminates that.”
Type word in chat; view group responses on screen.
00:30 – 00:50 Slide 4: Breakout Practice
Visual: Triad Role Assignment & Timer
Breakout Practice (Groups of 3):
“You’ll rotate roles: Manager, Employee, and Observer. Managers will apply the SBI-A model using Scenario A in your workbook while Observers time and score using the checklist.”
Join breakout room; conduct 3-way roleplay using Participant Workbook.

Core Framework Highlight: The SBI-A Model

To eliminate ambiguity, managers were trained to structure every piece of feedback around four distinct elements:

  • Situation: Anchor strictly in time and place (e.g., “During yesterday’s Q3 sprint review…”).
  • Behavior: Describe observable actions only—no assumptions or character judgments.
  • Impact: Explain the direct result on the team, client, or project.
  • Action: Partner on a clear, forward-looking next step together.

04. Deliverables Package Showcase
